AIA SJ 2012 Design Awards

The design of the Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno, received top honors Friday at the 2012 Architecture Design Awards ceremony organized by the San Joaquin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
AC Martin received the Award of Honor at the event held at the Fresno Art Museum. The library, completed in 2009, contains one of the largest collections of books in the central San Joaquin Valley.
Architects from 13 firms submitted 34 entries for designs in 3 categories: Awards for Architecture (built work), Unbuilt Work, and Well Lived (projects over 20 years old).
The following Awards for Architecture were bestowed:
Award of Honor: AC Martin, CSUF Henry Madden Library
Award of Merit: Arthur Dyson Architects, Woods-Morris residence; Darden Architects, Public Safety Building at College of the Sequoias; and HMC Architects, Roger Oraze Elementary School.
In the category of Unbuilt Work, the following project was recognized:
Award of Citation: AC Martin, Madera County Courthouse.
The event also featured a People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Creative Fresno, for the design that received the most online votes. University High School, designed by DSJ Architects, received the People’s Choice award after garnering 43% of the vote.
